Can you please provide an opinion on Brewin Dolphin for investments of about £2m?

Answered by Matt Angell

Hi Majella and Christine,

A good company with nice literature and experience of managing client money. It would be a restricted service you would be using which sometimes has its downfalls.

However, I would have concerns about the overall costs you would pay initially and annually as Brewin Dolphin uses percentages and advertise these transparently on their website. https://www.brewin.co.uk/sites/brewin-corp-v2/files/brewin-library/documents/uk-main/services/core-wealth-management/fees-brochure-charges.pdf

The more someone pays both initially and annually means it is eating into your potential returns going forwards and add into this the current rate of inflation could mean a large amount of risk to even breakeven.

With an investment of circa £2m then I would personally look for an independent financial adviser/planner who will charge on a fixed fee basis so you get true value for money and not restricted to one companies investments or platform.

Hope the above helps,

Thanks,

Matt
