Yes they are expensive; however, in proportion in pounds and pence the difference between the cheapest and Hargreaves Landsdown is IMHO worth paying for a professional, safe and reliable platform.

Expensive if you only trade in funds, no cap so at 0.45% management costs a £100K portfolio would cost £450 each year. Using it for your own choice share portfolio, with low online dealing costs and the 0.45% capped at £45, makes it one of the cheapest if you trust your own judgement, deal infrequently and are willing to hold for years not days.

Can be very expensive if only invest only in funds, for example £100K @ 0.45% management charges would cost £450 each year. On the other hand using the ISA to hold your own share portfolio, with HL having one of the cheapest online dealing costs and the 0.45% charge capped @ £45 makes it one of the cheapest in the long run, especially if you hold onto stock and infrequently trade. However you need to be confident in your own stock picking ability and be prepared to hold.

It works and I feel they will look after my assets. They are big enough to give that assurance but the service has remained that of a small company that actually cares, and not corporate that pays lip service with jargon and platitudes. It could be cheaper, but I'd rather pay a bit more for the peace of mind, after all it took a long time and lot of hard work to earn the money, so I don't want to cut corners now.
