A straightforward solution from a big brand Aegon with just five different funds to choose from. Will suit people who want a hassle-free experience and value the security that comes from bigger brands. Noises from HQ suggest this service could be closed in future – not a key strategic priority for the group so expect it to lag peers in terms of development.
How our ratings work
We score each provider on about 20 different criteria including cost, service, website, functionality, customer feedback and our experience of the service. All overseen by our PhD gonk!
Don’t want to take our word for it? We ask existing customers and investors to rate their experience with the company – based on value for money, overall service and the website. We need at least 20 customer reviews before we add anyone to our Best Buys list.
I like the fund, but when I asked them what exactly my pension was invested in they couldn't tell me. The 'Fund Fact Sheet' has nothing to say on whether my money is invested in fossil fuels, arms, gambling or any other unethical activities. I find this concerning, especially since the fund manager, Blackrock, is a known major investor in organisations causing the climate crisis.
They have promised to send me further information but it seems crazy to me that the ethical policy of a major pension fund is neither clear nor readily available.
good ckear website. easy to access fund performance data
I have a pension pot growing which I currently have no need of which I plan to leave to my grandchildren. Send a proper email or a message though my personal account with them rather than a secure email server which is a ball ache to open
Seems user friendly. I have other personal pensions with Aegon and I am able to see values of all on the website and didn't have to do anything for that to happen. I can only see statements etc. of my current pension but had to create a separate Aegon account to see statements for the others.
You can transfer your pension from them to someone else. Make it easy to login to their website. Extremely hard and I work in IT!
Projects the retire ready calculation. It would be nice to have an App
Not impressed at all. The chat function doesn't work and the admin charges seem a bit over the top considering that the AMC is also paid as well. Illustration from them shows that I could end up losing a big chunk of my pension pot to charges. Can't understand why the monthly admin fee of £45 on a pension pot of £68 K is justifiable. I was moved onto this platform without really understanding what they were talking about and by the time it all happened and I read the documentation it was too late to do anything. I am transferring my pot somewhere else ASAP.
The details on the funds available.
The user interface is good. It makes pensions a bit more engaging than the yearly letter I would receive from my previous provider. I like how it shows how far I am off my retirement goals. Adding multi-factor authentication would be an improvement I'd like to see.
General accessibility, there is poor provisions of workplace scheme info. I sent a letter containing an enquiry to their email address which I received a bounce back from stating the email address had closed and was no longer accepting emails! Entire process felt very automated with little thought/attention. Ill be transferring funds across to my Hargreaves Lansdown SIPP as quickly as I am able to.
Having problems at the moment with online access so this could be improved.
Their online chat option is very useful. However, I have had to use it as a result of being unable to navigate certain parts of the website. An app would be helpful.
I didn't like the way the pension was transferred here. Without advice I am not sure how suitable it really is.
Good UI on Retiready, but shockingly poor fund selection process, which has to be completed on a different website
Shows all company pensions including Aegon pensions from previous employer. Customer service could be improved.
I really like the ease of the Retiready system and online chat facilities.
Very easy to use and good call centre staff (helpful). Reducing costs and charges would be an improvement. Its a passable first ever account, nothing special.
Simple and easy to use although the app could be improved. I find it less engaging than other providers I've used.
Easy to view and manage online, in particular to change your investment strategy. Better online facilities than other investments services I've used.
Nice interface, plenty of whitespace and easy to use. Have to access a different site with different login details to do a fund switch. Fund selection isn't easy and its difficult to filter sensibly. Overall not bad but needs to get everything onto a single platform ...
A straightforward solution from a big brand with a choice of five different solutions offered in a simple, engaging way. This is good news for those who don't want to spend hours researching investments, but sadly you can’t choose from a wide range of funds and can’t buy and sell individual company shares.
The focus of the site is more around pensions, but ISAs are also available. The charges are around 0.92% a year all-in (so £9.20 on £1,000). This is relatively good value for this sort of solution.
This will suit people who want a hassle-free experience and value the security that comes from bigger brands. The investments which sit under the Aegon bonnet are provided by US giant BlackRock which runs over $6 trillion of assets.
