Are international index funds a good investment?

They are a bit boring. They will never shoot the lights out. You'll never be first to spot the next Apple, and never the first with bragging rights about your stock-picking genius down the pub. But you'll also never waste your money with expensive fees, you'll never waste time trying to second-guess markets, and — if you hold for the long term — you'll never kick yourself for making a stupid call that backfired. About 60% of my pension is in a global index fund and it just chugs along, acting as a simple foundation for the majority of my savings.

I’ve worked in investment markets for over 20 years. I started out at Merrill Lynch Investment Management and worked at a few big names before setting up my first business in 2008.
