Can I switch my Cash ISA to a Stocks & Shares ISA?

26 March 2025

Question by Matthew

Hi,

I have a Cash ISA with Leeds B/S which matures in May 2025. I took it out at the end of March 24. I'd like to transfer it and keep the allowance, not withdraw it. I'd also like to change it to a Stocks & Shares ISA. Is this possible?

I also have a Stocks & Shares ISA with Moneybox for 24/25 with 20k, which I will leave. I also intend to open one for 25/26 with 20k with Trading 212. Is this allowed or legal?

Hi there,

Thanks for sending in your questions.

Yes, you should be able to transfer your existing Leeds Building Society Cash ISA to a Leeds Building Society Stocks & Shares ISA as long as you follow the proper transfer process. You can find the details on how to do this here.

For your second question, you need to be mindful of the annual allowance. It is allowed and legal to open multiple Stocks & Shares ISAs, provided that your total ISA contributions per tax year do not exceed £20k.

In your scenario, you have already used your current tax year's allowance for your Moneybox ISA, and intend to use your full allowance for the next tax year to open a new Trading 212 ISA. There is no issue with this as your annual contributions are not exceeding £20k.

Hope this clears things up!
