I want to some help with tax. Should I speak to a financial advisor or an accountant?

10 February 2023

Question by Henry

I want to some help with tax - to make sure I'm maximising my allowances (pension, capital gains etc.).

I spoke with a financial advisor who would do it but wants to manage my money which is expensive (currently in low-cost funds).

Should I just speak to an accountant?

Hi Henry

Your best bet is speaking to an advice-only financial planner. These are financial planners who do not advise on the investments or assets you have, but give you general financial advice about making use of allowances like you mention and can provide other help depending on your situation and needs. Following this you then implement the advice yourself with your investments.

I should say I am not an advice-only financial planner, I am more like the adviser you reference in your question.
That said, well-known search engines will bring up results of advice-only financial planners to speak to. An accountant is not your best bet for what you are looking for.

Best of luck with your search
