Who is the best provider for Bed & ISA?

Question by Boring Money reader
Hi,
I've spent about a year and a half of regular reading, i.e. Weekend FT money articles and trawling the net. A total minefield. All I want to do is 'Bed & ISA' some investment trust shares which I bought for my son years ago and find a reasonably priced platform where he can do this. And, in order to try to save on Capital Gains Tax, Bed & ISA over the next few tax years using the annual allowance. Any advice on a suitable platform? Genuinely frustrated!
Thanks.

Hi there,
Thanks for your question.
The good news is that many ISA providers support 'Bed & ISA' - the process of transferring investments held outside an ISA (such as in a General Investment Account) and moving them into an ISA to make use of the £20,000 annual tax-free allowance.
We explain a bit more about how Bed & ISA works and why you might want to explore it here.
In terms of which provider you should go for (and you mention cost as being a primary concern), why not check out the winners of our Best Buy ISA award? All but one of the providers (Trading 212) that won our coveted annual award support Bed & ISA, and you can read more about it on their respective websites as follows:
As fees seem to be an area of interest for you, it's worth noting AJ Bell also won our new Best For Low-Cost ISA - Funds & Shares award, recognising the cheapest providers for fund and share investing on the market.
We also launched a Best For Investment Trusts award this year, so if you or your son are keen on investing in this type of fund specifically, AJ Bell, Hargreaves Lansdown and interactive investor all have our seal of approval.
We hope this helps!
