When investing £20,000 in a stocks and shares ISA, is it best to just do so in one hit or to drip feed to £20K over the year?

Thank you for your question.

Making a regular contribution to a Stocks and shares ISA can provide you with some protection against potential falls in the value of your investment, for example a 10% fall on a £1,000 investment is significantly lower than a 10% fall if you invested £20,000 in one go. However the same can be said for limiting potential gains on your investments.

Really the decision will come down to the level of risk you are prepared to except and how likely you are to require access to your invested funds short term. Most investments are medium to long term and require time to generate the returns that clients desire, investing is more about time in the market than market timing, history shows that over time investments go up.
