How do fund supermarkets take their fees?
Question by Gary
Hi,
Do you have any details for how the fund supermarkets take their fees? Do they all sell units? Allow a cash balance to be held and charged direct? Do a Direct Debit to a bank acct?
I prefer the latter (which Eqi provide) but others seem to sell units... which I don't like. Any info would be useful.

Hi Gary, most fund supermarkets will sell units on a last in/first out basis meaning that they will sell units in the last fund purchased. A way around this could be setting up a direct debit with a regular sell instruction to buy less than the amount collected. Many advisory businesses do this by allocating an amount or % (typically 2%) to cash. This way it is possible to keep cash healthy and potentially prevent the disinvestment process or auto-sell of units when cash is low or overdrawn. I hope this helps.
