THE SHORT ANSWER
Which investment platform is best?
The best platform depends on which account you need and how much you're investing. Low-cost, app-based platforms usually win for smaller or simpler pots, while established full-service platforms suit larger portfolios and hands-on investors. We rate every major UK platform on cost, features and what real customers say - then pick a Best Buy for each account type. Choose yours below.

Investment platform questions, answered
An online service that lets you buy, hold and sell investments - funds, shares and ETFs - in one place. Most let you open a Stocks & Shares ISA, a pension and a Lifetime ISA, and charge a platform fee plus dealing costs.
It depends on how much you invest and what you hold. Low-cost, app-based platforms tend to be cheapest for smaller or fund-only pots, while flat-fee platforms often work out cheaper once your pot is large. Use the cost filter on each comparison to check against your own amount.
UK-regulated platforms are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), which protects eligible investments up to £85,000 per person, per firm if the provider fails. This doesn't protect you from losses if your investments fall in value.
An ISA gives tax-free growth and access any time. A pension gives tax relief on contributions but locks money away until at least 55 (57 from 2028). Many people use both - it depends on when you'll need the money.
We combine our own independent research on cost and features with thousands of verified customer reviews, then award Best Buys by account type. Ratings are set by our research team.
By default our tables sort on the basis of (1) “Most Popular” providers based on customer choice (2) Descending order of the Boring Money customer recommendation score. Pricing may vary depending on money invested, transaction value and trading frequency. We have selected the pricing tiers we believe to be relevant to the largest number of investors.
