If I get a Cash ISA with say Nationwide can I add more money into my existing Halifax equity ISA in the same financial year, assuming of course I keep the total amount less than £20k?

Good morning Alastair.
An excellent question to ask.
You can have as many ISAs as you like, as long as you meet the eligibility criteria for each type.
However, you can only pay into one of each type of ISA in a single tax year, so one Cash, one Lifetime, and one Stocks and Shares.
And, you can't pay in more than your annual ISA allowance overall as you have already identified.
I hope this answer helps. If you need anything else just let me know.
Kind regards
Chris Broome.
