Hi, is the growth in a fund (say vanguard) taxed before you decide to withdraw any of it?

Hi Ian,
This is dependant on which "tax wrapper" the fund is held in. For example, if in an ISA, then no, but a onshore bond, then there is a tax liability credited deemed to satisfy the basic rate of tax.
